Frequently asked questions

Are there English-speaking ski schools in Avoriaz?

Yes, plenty. BASS, Avoriaz Alpine Ski School and New Generation are British schools teaching in Avoriaz, and our friends at Peak Snowsports cover the whole Portes du Soleil. ESF and Evolution 2 also have English-speaking instructors, so you will not struggle to find lessons in English at any level.

Are there freestyle or snowpark lessons in Avoriaz?

Yes. Avoriaz has four snowparks, including The Stash forest park and the Lil'Stash for kids, and freestyle lessons are a great way to learn the features safely. Ask Gypsy, REAL or the main ski schools about freestyle and park sessions for skiers and snowboarders.

Can I book a ski guide or off-piste lessons in Avoriaz?

Yes. Peak Snowsports and BASS offer guiding, off-piste coaching and ski touring across the Portes du Soleil, and most schools offer private off-piste lessons. Always ski off-piste with a qualified instructor or guide and the right avalanche safety kit.

Do I need a lift pass for ski lessons in Avoriaz?

Yes, in most cases. Ski schools do not include lift passes in their prices, so everyone having lessons needs a pass for the lifts they use. Ski hire and insurance are not usually included either. Ask your school which area your lessons will cover, as beginners may only need the local Avoriaz area while confident skiers will want the full Portes du Soleil pass. We can have the right passes ready for your arrival.

How do I book ski lessons in Avoriaz through Atlas Ski Co?

We recommend ski and snowboard schools that we know and trust, but you book directly with them. Prices and availability come from the school. There is a booking link for Peak Snowsports on this page, and the other schools take bookings through their own websites. If you are not sure which school suits your group, tell us everyone's age and level and we will point you in the right direction.

Is there childcare in Avoriaz for children who are not in ski lessons?

Yes. Les P'tits Loups nursery in Avoriaz looks after children aged 3 months to 5 years during the winter season, with indoor and outdoor activities, sleeping rooms and meals on request. The Village des Enfants also combines ski lessons with activities for children from 3 years old. Spaces are limited in school holidays, so book early.

Should I book private or group ski lessons in Avoriaz?

Private lessons give you the instructor's full attention, so you progress faster and can work on exactly what you want, and are great value split between a family or small group. Group lessons are cheaper per person and more social, and suit children and beginners well. Schools like BASS and Evolution 2 keep group sizes small.

When should I book ski lessons in Avoriaz?

Book as soon as your holiday dates are confirmed. Christmas, New Year, February half term and Easter book up fast, especially children's group lessons and the best private instructors. Outside the school holidays there is more flexibility, but booking ahead still gets you the times you want.

Where do ski lessons meet in Avoriaz?

It depends on the school and your level, and you will be told your meeting point when you book. Avoriaz is compact and fully ski-in ski-out, with the beginner slopes in the middle of the village, so meeting points are never far from your accommodation.

Which ski school is best for young children in Avoriaz?

The Village des Enfants, run by ESF in the centre of the resort, is a dedicated chalet and snow area for children aged 3 to 16 and one of the best kids' ski set-ups in the Alps. If you prefer very small English-speaking groups, BASS run mini, junior and teen courses with a maximum of four children per group.
