Avoriaz is car-free, so getting there works a little differently to most ski resorts. Your transfer from Geneva takes you up to the resort entrance at 1,800 metres, and from there sleighs, snowcats and luggage sledges cover the last stretch to your accommodation. Here is how it works, so the start of your Avoriaz ski holiday is as easy as the skiing.

Arriving in a car-free ski resort
Cars stop at the top of the Route d'Avoriaz. Your driver drops you at the Avoriaz arrivals centre, the resort's reception at the village entrance, open 24 hours with staff on hand, a heated waiting room and luggage storage on Saturdays.
From there, horse-drawn sleighs run as taxis during the day and snowcats take over after dark, carrying you and your bags to your accommodation. Just order one at reception and pay the driver locally. Travelling light? Self-service luggage sledges let you walk it yourself through the snowy streets, which is half the fun.
Depending on where you are staying, we can also drop you at the Prodains Express cable car in the valley below, a four-minute ride up the cliff into the resort. We will advise on the best drop-off point for your accommodation when you book.
Top 5 tips for your airport transfer to Avoriaz
1. Book early
Secure your airport transfer well in advance, especially for Christmas and February half term, when last-minute availability can be extremely limited.
2. Pack for the last leg
Your bags travel the final stretch by sleigh, snowcat or sledge, so keep luggage closed and compact, and wear boots with good grip for the walk through the village.
3. Consider a private transfer
If you are travelling in a group, a private transfer can be cost-effective and much more convenient, with no waiting for other passengers or extra drop-offs along the way.
4. Allow extra time on Saturdays
Saturday is changeover day across the Portes du Soleil, and the climb up from Morzine can be slow in heavy snow. Bring snacks and water, and use the airport facilities before you set off.
5. Plan your departure day
On Saturday mornings resort staff circulate outside the residences to collect departing guests and their luggage. Leaving before 9am or after 11am avoids the busiest window, and give yourself time to reach the arrivals centre before your pickup.
