In Avoriaz, every front door opens onto the snow. Our self-catered apartments and chalets put you right on the Portes du Soleil, with skis on outside and 600km of pistes across France and Switzerland to explore.

Self-catering gives you your own space, your own timetable and the best value in the resort. Cook a big family dinner, grab fondue to take away, or eat out at any of the 90 or so restaurants across the ski area. It’s your holiday, run your way.

We have multiple hand-picked properties across the resort, from compact apartments for couples to chalets for groups of 16. Every one has been checked by our team, and we’ll match you to the right district as well as the right property.

Why self-cater in Avoriaz

Ski-in ski-out, every time. Avoriaz was built so that every building sits on the snow. You won’t need a ski bus or a walk in ski boots. Just clip in at the door and go.

Space and freedom. You get the whole property to yourselves. Breakfast happens when you’re ready, kids eat at their time, and evenings are spent round your own table.

Better value for groups. For families and groups of friends, self-catering is usually the most cost-effective way to stay in Avoriaz, especially in the school holidays.

Everything within a short walk. Avoriaz is compact. Every building is within 15 minutes’ walk of the centre, and public lifts and escalators link the levels. Supermarkets, bakeries, ski shops and Aquariaz are never far away.

Which area should you stay in?

Avoriaz is a small resort, but each area has its own feel. Here’s our quick guide.

Centre (Festival). The heart of the resort, with most of the shops, restaurants and bars. Aquariaz, the cinema and the Village des Enfants are here too. It’s best for families who want everything on the doorstep.

Ruches. Central and convenient, next to the Village des Enfants, the main lifts and the Evolution 2 ski school. It suits families and groups who want to be close to the action.

Snow. This is the lively end of town, surrounded by bars and restaurants. Pick it if après matters more than an early night.

Dromonts. The original Avoriaz, full of iconic wooden architecture. It’s quiet but less than 5 minutes from the centre, with quick access to the Arare and Chavanette sectors. Keen skiers love it.

Hauts-Forts. Close to the top of the Prodains cable car, with direct access to the Arare and Chavanette slopes. It’s peaceful and slightly set back, so it’s great for skiers who want to be first on the hill.

Crozats. High up with big views and ski-in ski-out access. Public lifts get you to the centre in under 5 minutes. It’s practical for families and couples.

Falaise. Right by the resort entrance and the car parks, which makes it the easiest district for arrival day and very handy if you’re driving. It’s calm, with a supermarket and bakery close by.

Amara. The newest district, with modern high-end apartments, its own covered parking and sunset views. It has direct access to the gentle Proclou slopes, so it’s perfect for beginners and young families.

Not sure which suits you? Tell us who’s coming and how you ski, and we’ll recommend the right spot.

Food shopping made easy

Self-catering in a car-free resort is simpler than it sounds.

  • Supermarkets. There are two Sherpa supermarkets (Centre and Falaise) and a Carrefour Montagne in the village. All of them offer online ordering, and some will deliver straight to your door.
  • Bakeries. Le Fournil de Cannelle and Maison Tavernier cover fresh bread and pastries every morning.
  • Local produce. The Seraussaix farm shop sells its own cheese and charcuterie. Les Délices d’Antan does raclette and fondue to take away, so you can have a Savoyard night in with no washing up.
  • Order ahead. Our tip is to place a supermarket order before you travel and have it waiting when you arrive.

Extras we can arrange

Frequently asked questions

Are all your Avoriaz apartments and chalets ski-in ski-out?

Yes. The whole resort is snow-covered and skiable, so every building in Avoriaz is ski-in ski-out by design. Some are right on a piste, while others are a short glide along the snowy streets.

Are Avoriaz apartments small?

French ski apartments are often more compact than UK guests expect. A “6-person” apartment can include a bunk cabin or a sofa bed in the lounge. We list the real sleeping arrangements for every property, and if you want more space we’ll point you to something larger.

Are towels and bed linen included?

Yes, fresh linen and towels are included as standard, along with natural toiletries and full cleaning before and after your stay.

Can we drive to Avoriaz?

Yes, but cars stay at the resort entrance. There are covered and outdoor paid car parks, and Amara has its own covered parking. Some guests park at Les Prodains in the valley and take the cable car up instead.

Can you arrange lift passes, ski hire and lessons?

Yes. We’ll arrange passes, hire, lessons, childcare and Geneva transfers alongside your booking, so it’s all ready when you arrive.

How do we get our luggage to the apartment?

Your transfer drops you at the resort reception area, which is open 24 hours in season. From there you call a snowcat or sleigh, or use a coin-operated luggage sledge. Soft bags work far better than wheelie cases on snow. If you’re staying in Falaise or Amara, you’re right next to the entrance.

Is self-catering in Avoriaz good for families?

It’s ideal. The car-free streets are safe for kids, the Village des Enfants ski school takes 3 to 16 year olds, the Avrizou nursery takes them from 6 months, and Aquariaz is perfect for afternoons off. Under 5s ski free on lift passes. Cots and high chairs are available on request.

Is there food shopping in the resort?

Yes. There are three supermarkets, two bakeries, a farm shop and a deli in the village, and they offer online ordering and delivery. You can also order before you arrive so food is waiting when you get there.

What day do stays start?

Most of our self-catered properties run Saturday to Saturday, especially in the school holidays. Some offer shorter stays or flexible start days in quieter weeks, so ask us.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is usually late afternoon and check-out is in the morning. The exact times depend on the property and we’ll confirm them when you book. On Saturday mornings, resort staff help with luggage at collection points. Leave before 9am or after 11am to avoid the rush.
