As we reach the midway point of the 2024/25 Ski Season, it’s great to be able to look back at a pretty special season so far, blessed with huge snowfall, cold weather and bluebird days!
While Avoriaz is pretty snow-sure, the lower slopes of Morzine have had a tough couple of years. This doesn’t mean that the average day skiing isn’t enjoyable, with plenty of high-altitude pistes to choose from in the Avoriaz sector, but it does mean that Morzine gets an unfair bad rep.
Well, this season has seen that script flipped, and it all started as early as November. Morzine, Avoriaz and the whole of the Portes Du Soleil has been truly blessed by amazing snow, with several powder days, some with glorious blue bird conditions, perfect for holiday goers and seasonnaires alike to get out and enjoy the back-country powder or the perfectly groomed pistes, whichever they prefer.

2024-25 Season So Far
Looking back to way before the season was kicking off, Avoriaz got dustings of snow as far back as early September, then another heavy snow fall at the start of November, leaving us eager to kick off the season!
With pre-opening weekends coming up, the 20th November saw the first proper snowfall, the snow gods dumping over 60cm over a couple of days for the resort teams to play with, getting the pistes in the area ready to go!
The resort held a pre-opening weekend over the 1st & 2nd December, and again on the 7th & 8th December. Locals were treated to a brilliant bluebird day and decent snow conditions.
The day everyone had been waiting for soon rolled around. The full resort opened on the 13th December, with even more snow falling over that weekend, topping up the pistes nicely ready for the busy Christmas & New Years season.
Morzine-Avoriaz is a magical place during Christmas & New Years, with lantern parades, visits from Père Noël and illuminations throughout the town, it’s a perfect treat for the little ones. The conditions meant our staff could really make the most of any downtime in what is a busy period by playing in the powder, with some beautiful snow and bright days.
Anyone that booked a Christmas getaway got to experience Morzine at its finest!
The next big snowfall came in Early January, with little top ups all the week prior. This led to all time conditions with snow up to waists, meaning it was an absolute must to get away from the pistes for the resort staff. You wait all season for days like these.
Which leads us to the end of January, where we were happy to announce that up to 60cm fell in Avoriaz at village level with more higher up, a perfect top up just before the busiest week of the year, February half term.
Conditions are forecast to stay cold, so even without any significant snowfall in the forecast for the next few days, there will still be plenty of snow to enjoy!
